From the President's desk - change of leadership at NZPIF

In October Andrew King resigned as President of the NZ Property Investors Federation (NZPIF) to begin an extended motorcycle tour, with his wife Sarah, through Central and South America. After 26 years of involvement, it is the end of an era for NZPIF. His enthusiasm for property, tenants, landlords and the improving of membership benefits has been exemplary.  Much has been achieved during his tenure for the Federation to become a well-informed voice for property investors in political and media circles.

The island with a crisis

There has been recent publicity* around the shortage of residential rentals on Waiheke Island. There, the lack of reasonably-priced rentals is seriously affecting those people who earn quite modest incomes as they work in the Island’s service industries.

OPIA Bus Trip and Christmas Dinner- 2022

Come to one or the other or come to both the choice is yours! Come along to our 2022 Christmas dinner and bus trip. This year we have our annual bus trip making a return followed by a wonderful dinner. Prices: Both events including dinner and drinks: $90 Just the bus trip (No dinner afterwards): $35 Just Dinner and drinks (No bus trip): $65 Bus Trip Details- Come along to the annual social and educational event to start off 2020. There will be several properties to have a look around Dunedin suburbs - We are keeping the properties a secret for now but come and enjoy the surprise Please wear easy-to-remove footwear. Dinner Details- 2-course buffet dinner (plus platters and nibbles to start). This is always a great event and every year it is getting more popular so get in quick to avoid disappointment, there are limited seats. There is vegan, GF, DF and Vegetarian options available but please email the office and indicate that you will require these options so we can make sure we have enough. We are also once again going a foodbank drive in lieu of running a cash bar so please be generous to help out the local foodbank in Dunedin. We have limited space for dinner in particular so if you want to come to that or both events make sure you register asap to avoid disappointment.

By the time you are reading this, my wife, Sarah, and I will be starting a seven-month motorbike journey from San Francisco to Santiago in Chile. This is part one of a plan to motorbike around the Americas. Naturally this means my 26-year involvement (nearly half my life!) with the rental property industry is coming to an end. It has certainly been a journey and I’d like to thank Sarah and the kids for putting up with a lot.

Registration of Property Managers

Recently there have been calls for the compulsory registration of Residential Property Managers. These property managers act as middle-men between the property owner and the tenant, collecting the rent and handling any issues that may come up during the tenancy relating to the tenant's behaviour and with the property itself.
