    Chris Addington Master of the University College (UNI-COL) has agreed to come along and speak to members about his residential students and the challenges they impose, the reasons why references are given out second semester is one issue covered. Neville Butcher is a motel owner on George Street, he will talk about running a business in the 'student area' and the challenges that imposes.

  • OPIA - Queenstown Meeting - MBIE Seminar - Renting and You
    Seminars about renting will be held in selected locations across New Zealand in 2017. The aim of the seminars is to inform and educate landlords, renters and community groups about the recent changes to the Residential Tenancies Act (RTA), and to provide tips and information about how to make sure properties are compliant with the law. Speaking at the seminars will be representatives from the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) Tenancy Services, the Energy Efficiency Conservation Authority (EECA), the Ministry of Justice (Tenancy Tribunal) and the New Zealand Property Investors’ Federation. Topics include: What you need to know about the 2016 changes to the RTA, including smoke alarms and insulation requirements An update on the upcoming key provisions of the RTA Amendment Bill (i.e. methamphetamine contamination, tenant liability for damage and unlawful residential premises) The Tenancy Compliance and Investigation team Tenancy Services’ dispute resolution and bond processes and services The benefits of joining a Property Investor Association Tea and coffee will be provided on arrival. Each seminar is approximately 2 hours, including time for questions.     In 2015 Kerry Beveridge purchased the City Hotel Timaru. Come to this meeting on 3 October to hear what happened next. Since then the few usable rooms have been renovated to give 16 very popular rooms. Kerry is currently re-purposing space to give 7 new bedrooms and a bathroom.     Come and hear Graeme Fowler on the 5 September. Graeme is a Hawkes Bay - Hastings property Investor with over 25 years experience, He currently holds 40 rental properties, His aim for 2017 is to make $1 million in value from the repairs and maintenance he is carrying out on his properties. He has purchased properties around the Hawkes Bay area for buy and holds and trades. He aims to buy at good discounts for profit and refinancing after getting them revalued. He will share the lessons he has learnt including know your market place well and don't pay more than you have to and crunch your numbers. Graeme has a Facebook property investor group page with over 5000 members (you can join in the discussion). He wrote NZ Real Estate Investors secrets, the first edition sold 10,000 copies, it was the story of 10 NZ millionaires who invested in property. The second edition re-looks at 5 of the original case studies with an update 5 years on review. There are some new names in the book.
