Guest Speaker: Philippa Howden-Chapman Philippa is a professor of public health at the University of Otago, Wellington. She is director of He Kainga Oranga/Housing and Health Research Programme and the New Zealand Centre for Sustainable Cities. She has conducted a number of randomised community housing trials in partnership with local communities, which have had a major influence on housing, health and energy policy. She has a strong interest in reducing inequalities in the determinants of health and has published widely in this area, receiving a number of awards for her work. Allow Member "Find" to show only recently lapsed members

The find option that shows lapsed members doesn't allow filtering or sorting to identify those who have recently lapsed. It would be useful to be able to set that option to only show recently lapsed members.

North End Group Tuesday 23 June 2015 – University College, 315 Leith Street, 5.45 for 6pm start – This is the first of a new OPIA initiative to further the knowledge of landlords or managers of properties in North Dunedin. Women In Property Meeting

Come along and listen to new member, Hillary Johnston’s presentation about how she has enjoyed renovating homes for most of her life. When Hillary was 6 she was her father’s helper when he built the old family home by hand, then when she was 17 started helping her father on building projects renovating 100-200 year old villas in Germany. Her father taught her how to make good profits from their efforts. Since living in New Zealand, Hillary has continued practicing in the same way using her skills to enhance her family’s lifestyle. She decided to take on a big renovation project in Dunedin during 2014 (one of her final family projects) which is now reaching successful completion. Hillary will openly share her knowledge regarding dealing with real estate agents, lawyers, tradespeople, building, furniture and appliance companies and Dunedin City Council in order to achieve a positive outcome on all levels. Inland Revenue are running a session for landlords to provide an overview of tax responsibilities for rental property owners. You will be introduced to IRD's business tools and resources, myIR online services and cover topics such as the importance of record keeping, deductible and non-deductible expenses, repairs and maintenance, items that are depreciable and what happens when you sell or dispose of your property and chattels. We can cover off what questions we typically receive, and provide a few examples of what is viewed as a repair and or maintenance versus a capital improvement.
